    Perhaps some history will help. "Venerate" is derived from Latin and its use in the Catholic Church predates the invention of the English language. It is not the Church redefining a word it is the English language evolving into different meanings of old words that that have a history far longer...

    I reckon some folk want to be scandalised by what Catholics do, think, and say. I guess Lutherans get a similar reception whenever Lutherans say something even slightly Catholic-like in vocabulary or tone.

    Excellent; not many group therapy sessions are intended to be evangelism. AA, being a kind of group therapy, is not specifically designed to be evangelistic.
