Faith Is Not the Opposite of Reason

Just a quick note - I will try to reply (but may take a few days, even half a week) -- I'm in the middle of a hard deadline w/ software validation for FDA application. Those are some great insights -- and I really want to follow up on the Scot McKnight comments -- although if I get enough...

Faith Is Not the Opposite of Reason

I generally like what you are saying here (and many other posts FWIW), a few of thoughts: I have seen people do "logical proofs" that they are absolutely convinced of, but they are not persuasive to others because the one making the proof is not aware of the presuppositions he/she brings to...

Which jobs will AI take over in the next 10 years?

To Frankj's point - MS laid of 9,000 people despite being profitable (like 12B$ in profits). A decent chunk of the team that worked on Candy Crush Saga was let go -- and they had been provided an AI tool to make level creation easier / faster -- and had spent years giving feedback to improve...

How to identify a valid pastor.

So I think Spindle4 had been getting close to the answer. The key ultimately is to watch them over a period of time before jumping in and committing. That isn't perfect, but hopefully in the that time if the pastor exhibits bad fruit (Mt 7:17-18) -- and perhaps an explicit list of bad works...

Do we know with certainty that Judas went to hell?

This is the only verse I can think of that gives a hint of Judas' fate: https://biblehub.com/matthew/26-24.htm

Can speaking in tongues be faked or learned?

Tongues can be useful for strengthening oneself: 1 Co 14:4 I do not speak in tongues, but am open to it in the Spirit's timing. Tongues, like many things that God does with people, have Satanic copycats. There are spirits of divination that mimic prophecy for example. There is a limit with...

    AI and Medicine

Gabapentin is extremely addictive, so once you are on it, you have extreme pain w/ withdrawal. Also recent research indicates a 40% increase in risk of dementia from regular Gabapentin use.

Do you continue to investigate an issue if you disagree with the premise from the start?

I've done both. I'd consider the source, and if I respected the person I disagreed with, I would probably do more investigation. I tend to deep dive when I do that (like 40-100 hrs of research) so I have to also care about the issue enough to do so.

Do aliens fit in with Christian beliefs?

MIT UFO conference of 2012 had a presentation ( MIT UFO Conference Comparison Slides ) that compared Satanic Ritual Abuse and UFO abductions, and there are a large number of overlaps. I think it is very likely the UFOs are demonic / evil -- and I do believe in the possibility of unfallen...

    Free Bible Studies

There are some great resources that are also free: Free online Bible classes | World-class professors (There is a reasonably priced online Canadian accredited [by BC legislature iirc] college that builds upon this curriculum for bachelor and masters degrees) Lesson Archive – Biblical Literacy @...

The Manifestation of the Spirit for the Common Good 1 Corinthians 12

@Truth Seeker - what is your take on the motivational gift theory (Romans 12 gifts) and that the various sign gifts of 1 Corinthians occur as part of particular needs in circumstances?

Let's have a Love bible verse thread for Valentine's Day

Dt 24:5 (EHV) - When a man takes a new wife, he must not go out with the army, and no one is to impose any duty on him. He is to be freed from duty for one year for the sake of his homelife so that he may make the woman whom he has married happy.
