To Frankj's point - MS laid of 9,000 people despite being profitable (like 12B$ in profits). A decent chunk of the team that worked on Candy Crush Saga was let go -- and they had been provided an AI tool to make level creation easier / faster -- and had spent years giving feedback to improve the tool. Now MS is using the AI to replace them.
In the consulting space, I had been recommending using AI to speed up people, but seeing how this occurred w/ MS, I'm no longer able to make that advice except maybe at small companies that work tighter with people.
The crazy thing about AI replacing everyone's jobs -- is the whole system is built around people having income so they buy things. When lots of people are unemployed, the demand for many of the products that these AI automated systems create will decrease (except for things like healthcare and weapons).
