One of my favorite places to hike is the Appalachian mountains. I can't wait to take my daughter there next summer. Of course she wants to do the 2,000 mile trail but no, 6 miles sounds good to me.

What are some of your favorite hiking destinations?

any woodsy area with old logs fallen over to sit on and a stream and a pond with frogs, tadpoles, sun fish, and water spiders, and moss and the crunch of leaves underfoot....with a path that seems to have been deserted for eons....and lots of rocks and boulders to climb....

....oh, and if there's an old bridge over the stream, that's even better....

We have some local walking trails that are really pretty. Where we live now isn't as polluted as our former home so I'm pretty happy about that.

There is a place called thousand steps and the view on top is spectacular. One thing about living here is there are plenty of mountains and beautiful country

We have black bears but they are harmless unless you get close to their cubs, big thing around here is rattlesnakes and copperheads

Do the black bears run away if you make a lot of noise? I think that's what I was told to do.

What time of year is best to avoid the snakes besides in 3 feet of snow?

early spring or late fall. I dont really run into to many, the key is to keep alert at all times when in snake country. The bears will usually run when they see you.
