Does Daniel chapters 8 and 11 prophesy about events that took place in Maccabees?

And if Maccabees is missing from our modern Bibles, doesn’t this discourage Christians from reading Maccabees?

Wouldn’t this then stunt people’s ability to understand the prophecies in Daniel?

Nathan,

Like MILLIONS (billions?) of other books, 1-4 Maccabees contains some historical reports. Sometimes accurately. Such has absolutely nothing whatsoever with such ERGO being the inerrant, canonical, divinely-inscripturated words of God and Scripture. If such were the case, we'd have millions or billions of books in our Bible.

Just because a book is not contained within the covers of a tome with "HOLY BIBLE" written on the cover seems to have little relevance to what books are read. "The Cat in the Hat" is not found in many such tomes but a lot of people read it. Indeed, go down the New York Times Best Seller list and a lot of those books are NOT found in ANY tome with "HOLY BIBLE" written on the cover in genuine imitation gold letters. Your assumption that books not found in some Bible are ergo not read seems baseless to me.

Blessings on your Lenten observation.

Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple in AD 70.
The Jewish Historian Josephus wrote about the event in his “Histories”.
Shouldn’t the Bible contain the anti-Christian Jewish Histories by Josephus so Christians can read about the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy?

I don't recall Jesus ever predicting such.

Please cite scripture.

BUT what is remarkable is how you entirely, completely evaded atpollard's obvious (and brilliant) point. The rest of us all got it. I'll repeat it for you:

"Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple in AD 70.
The Jewish Historian Josephus wrote about the event in his “Histories”.
Shouldn’t the Bible contain the anti-Christian Jewish Histories by Josephus so Christians can read about the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy?"

Obviously we all know that the temple is no more because it's literally not there but how many are still waiting for that prophecy in Daniel to come to pass?
Btw Maccabees was written by Jews and copied by Jews and for Jews "before Christ" (BC)... The Feast of Dedication was based on the Maccabean revolt, Christ himself celebrated it, it later was replaced with a "miracle story" (conveniently) and renamed "Festival of lights"

So lets see.

1. A well known Jewish book written by Jews and for Jews
2. Copied by Jews for Jews and translated from Hebrew to Greek for Greek speaking Jews BC
3. Jesus celebrated it's festival, He was Jewish

I agree, according to Revelation the earthly Temple building will not be found hence why John saw no Temple in the city, Jesus/God IS the Temple and the heavenly city is NOT of THIS world but for the world to come in those whom are believers in His resurrection, which is exactly what Judah Maccabees believed and why God saw it good for Judah to be concerned with the fate of his dead men for (and it makes this very clear) he had strong faith/belief in the RESURRECTION

I very much doubt that maccabee was on the lower scale of machiavellianism.

From 2nd Maccabees, not 1rst Maccabees (12: 43)

Judah then took up a collection among all his soldiers,
amounting to two thousand silver drachmas,
which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an
expiatory sacrifice.
In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way,
inasmuch as he had the resurrection in mind;
for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again,
it would have been superfluous
and foolish to pray for the dead.
But if he did this
with a view to the splendid reward
that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness,
it was a holy and pious thought.

No.

Daniels words have no connection with the maccabean revolt.

The writings- ketvim like psalms point to the savior.

Did Jesus have any connection to the revolt?

[ expiatory sacrifice.]

I don't recall anything in Torah about this.
Do you?

If you don’t think Daniel 8 and 11 prophesy about the events in Maccabees, then you don’t understand these chapters.
