It seems people are shocked by Trump's announcement concerning transgenders not being allowed in the military. I've been to many sites where people think this is an out of the blue decision by Trump. But it isn't. If people would just google a few things they could find some news sources from a month or so ago on this very topic:

A transgender military is a weaker, compromised military December 8. 2016

The military is building a case to block transgender applicants — at least for now June 1

Army orders soldiers to undergo training to accept transgender troops June 13, 2017
Last week, USA TODAY reported that the Army and Marine Corps has asked the Pentagon for delays in accepting new, transgender troops. Under Carter's plan, the services had until July 1 to establish recruiting policies. The Army now says it needs two more years, and the Marines one year to analyze the impact of accepting them and concerns about their availability to deploy while receiving medical treatment.

Transgender recruitment in US military delayed by six months June 30, 2017
Defense secretary Jim Mattis is giving the military another six months to conduct a review to determine if allowing transgender individuals to enlist in the armed services will affect its “readiness and lethality”.

These sources indicate that the military has been discussing the topic!

Personally I agree with this decision. Why should the government pay for this? I dont have a problem with them serving so much as the taxpayer footing the bill for the surgeries

Wha..Trump has a moment of clarity?

I can't think of an easier way to introduce a type of cancer into the military than to allow transexuals and openly homosexual persons into it.

Wait...openly homosexual people been serving since 2011, and things have been just fine? According to the Family Research Council back in 2010 - they said we'd see a marked increase in male/male rape with the dropping of "don't ask don't tell".

And, that's actually what happened since it was abolished.

Well done, America.

I hate to break the news to everyone. But the truth is that the military is not equal opportunity. You cannot serve in the military if you are too old, too young, too fat, too skinny, too many tatoos, or if you have medical conditions or psychological disorders. If what progressives are saying is true, and being transgender is a legit medical condition, that medical condition should disqualify you from the military.

Matthis the present defense secretary was doing a study on this, but wasn't through with it yet from what I read. I think this was meant to try and change the topic of conversation from Russia to something else, which Trump loves to do. Also, it appeals to his base which is primarily angry, white, christian, males and racist bigots.

Can you tell I'm not a Trump supporter?

I see that anti-LGBTQ bigotry in the Christian community is showing its ugly face once again, this time here.

I dont know what to think...is it really a good idea to let people in the military with mental health issues..and on top of that they might get PTSD which they will have to deal with...so maybe this isnt a bad idea..

on the other hand..who says Transgenders cant be good soldiers..lets say you have a brave solder that has done many good things..and saved other soldiers, etc and they are transgender.....do you ban them? Why?

Sigh....I dunno what to think anymore..

Anybody who volunteers for service in the armed forces ought to be welcomed. Such people are willing to defend their neighbours. Donald's tweet is bad. But so many of his tweets are bad that it cannot surprise anybody that he has done it again. He really does need to be removed from the presidency.

Being transgender isn't a mental health issue. People need to educate themselves about these things before they make hurtful comments. Cis-gender people also get PTSD, a whole lot more often actually, since most of the population is cis. Should that disqualify cis folks as well?

If the shoe fit, I probably don't have to explain, sweetheart.

Bigotry used to be about race and ethnicity. Since perversion of thought and body has pervaded western thought ever increasingly for the last number of decades - now bigotry applies to anyone and everyone who expresses a negative opinion towards the actions or ideals of someone else. This is especially applicable in the sexual sense - as there are plenty of individuals who believe, or seem to believe, that any and all behavior is equally moral, natural and of course "God approved".

IACOBVS was probably talking about me. I don't care. Homosexuality and Transgenderism are perversions - recognized as such by all the major religions and nature itself. A relatively small group of persons though, have managed to shame the rest of us with herd mentality and titles like "bigot", "homophobe", "racist" etc. If anyone, as an individual - actually believes that race is the same as sexual choice - then perhaps they do need some mental help - because in my view - their mind is thoroughly twisted with propaganda.

Open homosexuality in the military has ALREADY proven to be a very very bad idea. Now they want to introduce transgenderism. What a nightmare. I'm straight and too old for military - but if I was a young lad from Iowa wanting to serve I'd absolutely balk at the idea that joining the military might mean doing any kind of sexual "service" for people I must salute, take orders from, or even those who I must serve side by side and risk my life for.

But that is what the perverts want. No big surprise.

trans means "across" and cis means "on this side" so transgendered means across (or the other side) gender and cisgendered means on this side (or the same side) gendered. Just think of it as meaning having the same gender with which the person was born.

So anyone who disagrees with you is a bigot? You don't know anything about me. Have you ever even served in the military?

Anyone who spreads hate about someone based on the way that person was born is a bigot. It has nothing to do with the military or if I've been a part of it. I don't see it as "serving" anyway. (And why would I chose to be part of an institution with which I disagree in almost all things?)

I'm actually quite disappointed that this thread was even started. It exposes the ugly underbelly of much of Christendom.

I started this thread because it's news. I saw people all over the internet proclaiming a surprise that President Trump would bring up this issue "out of the blue" and it wasn't out of the blue. I gave references that showed that this has been in the news all along. It is being discussed in the military which is something else I saw being proclaimed...that the military wasn't discussing it.

One of the links I gave actually gave some credibility as to the medical reasoning that Trump referred to. I had a cousin who couldn't get in the Army...there are actually some issues that hold people back from being able to enlist.

Here are two links that give MANY reasons why people cannot join the military:

Sorry, Lady Lammikins. That doesn't work for me. Just because it's in the news and because some website(those are always true, we know) are talking about it, it does not make it okay to put red meat out there in front of LGBTQ haters to vent their ugly views. I will always stand against this and any other hate perpetrated against any of God's children.

You are entitled to your beliefs and your interpretations but so are we so if you dont like it then perhaps you should avoid the thread rather than calling people bigots. My stand is based on moral and biblical proncipals, personally I have no bone to pick with anyone until they try to force their beliefs down my throat whether I agree or not.

Hate? Seriously? Is it also some form of hate to disqualify people who are twice their ideal weight and people who can't shoot straight?

It really does nothing for a cause (any cause) to simply write off anything less than gushing approval as hatred and bigotry.
