Now not just Italy but its export goods are being affected..
"Making things more complicated is a lack of knowledge about the virus's true risks and whether it is spread, for example, through exported goods.

Industry groups and policymakers have signaled incidents of importers of Italian goods in other EU countries seeking additional certification that the goods are virus-free.

The Coldiretti agricultural lobby on Wednesday said that “unjustified documentation” had been requested from importers of aged cheese in Greece, lettuce sent to Poland and fruit to Kuwait, while shipments of Italian-grown apples are blocked at the border with Ukraine.

Coldiretti also said its producers had reported "numerous cancellations without good reasons that struck an entire range of ‘Made in Italy’ foodstuffs, from wine to cured meats.’’....https://abcnews.go.com/Travel/wireStory/virus-outbreak-hits-weakened-italian-economy-hurts-69451678

The media kept asking if the government was going to do more drastic measures, now it seems clear what they want...

Well, looks like the media got what it wanted, a declaration by the President and now they can blame him for anything that happens...

"Dow plummets, trading briefly suspended after Trump's coronavirus response sparks market sell-off

The Dow fell 2,000 points and the S&P plummeted by 7 percent, marking the second time on Thursday that trading was temporarily suspended."....

"Dow falls 10 percent in brutal day for markets

It is the worst day for the Dow since the 1987 crash."......

"The Dow Is Spiraling Because a Pandemic, Oil Rout and Election Year Have Never Happened at the Same Time"...

They closed the beaches which is basically the whole economy of our area, and a person with COVID-19 patient went to the emergency room of the local hospital, and exposed 35 employees to the virus. Many of our members are in the medical field or connected to the health institutions or hospitals...

Trump wants to restart the economy by Easter. I worry that this is too soon and will kill off many more people and spread this virus even faster

This is an impossible balancing act. If you wind down preventative measures too soon you potentially risk lives. If you keep things locked down for too long you shut down the economy which carries its own costs, potentially including risking lives. People can only stay home, only going out alone and avoiding social contact for so long before you get a mental health crisis. Throw in the uncertainty for people like students who already struggle with feelings of pressure/stress and it becomes a question of trading one problem for another.

If it was as simple as "stay shut down until it's gone away" then the obvious answer is to shut down until there's no doubt the virus has gone away. When shutting down carries its own costs, some of them substantial, it's not quite so simple.

For what it's worth my understanding was that he wanted to give it two weeks before making a decision, not a blanket "in two weeks we're open for business".

This is the same President that ignored warnings from the intelligence community about this and downplayed it and said nothing to it so I do not trust his judgement. On the other hand H1N1 killed 14,000 people and they didnt shut everything down so guess we will see but if he is wrong then I am pretty sure people will vote him out.

I agree. I think he is only thinking about himself and getting re elected and if we go into a recession that hurts his chances of doing so.

If people start dying all over the place from a virus that's not going to be great for his re-election chances either.

I guess it takes something like this for people to finally realize just how unrational his thinking and decisions are in many cases. My question is will people finally vote him out?

Well, who do we put in Bernie the 'socialist', or Biden who has been nonexistent during the pandemic. Its a catch 22...

With respect, someone who bashes him at just about every opportunity really lacks credibility with a post like this.

The decision to close things down or not is a near-impossible dilemma. If you're too slow to close things down you risk a health crisis. If you close things down too aggressively you risk an economic crisis and a mental health crisis.

There are so many complications caused by wide-scale shutdowns - everything from the economic impact of businesses being forced to close their doors and associated job losses (which will be a very long-term impact, if businesses end up closing their doors permanently), to the mental health issues caused by isolation, to the danger to vulnerable children if they are in abusive situations and aren't in regular contact with mandated reporters, to the problems caused by parents of children with special needs who are expected to work from home while also tending to the needs of their children, and so on.

If it was as simple as "shut everything and keep it shut until the virus goes away" with no complications it would be a trivial decision. Sadly few things are as simple as that, whatever some parts of the media might like us to think.

I agree with this, it is his statements about the virus itself and his willingness to trade lives for the economy. Even his advisors are backing away from his statements and in some cases correcting them.

He doesn't wish for people to die. Have you listened to what he's said? If people would just STAY HOME when they're supposed to and if they have to go out practice social distancing in the best way and then wash hands things wouldn't get so out of hand. We have to place blame on some of the people who aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing! If that could happen then things wouldn't be so bad and we could get back to a normal life.

Again I agree but lets look at facts about this: 1. He originally said it was a hoax. 2. The intelligence community warned him about this in January. 3. He then said it would not be bad when reality hit him. You draw your own conclusions.
