There are two equally appealing educational programs I could take - one in mental health/addictions and the other for licensing officer. Both are post-grad, both are equal length, and the jobs for both pay about the same. I am relatively well-suited to both positions.

When you pray and you receive no direction one way or the other, how do you make the choice?
Base it on the level of positive effect that the courses have potential for.

If you see your capacity to help others is greater in one than the other, then pick that one. Mental illness and addiction is something that plagues many. The other is tied to businesses, isn't it? My personal opinion is the first one.

I wish you the best.

Peace

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.

Well, after all that agonizing over which educational goal to pursue, there have been plenty of jobs available these days. Last time I was laid off, it took more than two full years to get a job. This time, my Employment Insurance barely kicked in before I got a job. I even only went for one interview, and got that job! Unlike my last job, this one is doing what I was trained to do - social work! It is a one year mat leave position, but often this kind of employment will lead to other opportunities within this agency, so I am really excited about it, and it is right up my alley! I'm doing psychoeducational groups a couple of times a week and individual weekly visits with each participant in the groups. So excited, and really glad I don't have to go back to school...

Time to make the donuts again, eh? hehe I think it's great news that you have been so blessed to find employment again and maybe it will last longer than the maternity leave.

Excellent, so you can short-circuit all the uncertainty and do what you're good at all along!

If nothing else it will give you some extra time to consider your next move and a bit of extra money to help fund it. And maybe the mother you're covering will decide not to return and you can stay there a while :)

It's been more than a year and two months since ValleyGirl posted this thread. I think maybe the thread is dead

I am still working. The new mom decided not to return and I was offered the position. In the meantime, my union has a scholarship fund, so I am also in grad school full time, and have been since September. It is not easy to work full time and attend school full time and also attend to all the other stuff of life, but it can be done. Would have been much better had I been given the support I was promised, but that is just one more thing that proves I can excel in the face of adversity, with my integrity intact.

The scholarship was to keep me in the social services sector, so I am taking the Interprofessional Mental Health and Addictions program, post-degree diploma. I am just wrapping up the second term, and will start the third and final term in a week. Fortunately, my workplace has arranged that I can devote some of my work hours to practicum, and my load will lighten a little because of it. Good thing, too, because I have a feeling work is going to become rather stressful for the next little while.

It's good to see you post and to know you have work as well as some training. I hope it all goes well with you. I hope the stress either does not eventuate or is not unpleasant - more like a challenge that helps you to improve and grow in your profession.

God bless.

It's good to see you post ...

God bless.

Thanks. I post nearly every day, but I stick to the women's forum - I'm sure regulars here know why. I appreciate your kind thoughts.

Hi, I'm not a regular, really, more like an IRREGULAR, lol, I've been here for a short couple of months, but I don't blame you sticking to the women's forum, sometimes.

(I tried for that, but for some reason they wouldn't allow it :(
must be a glitch in the system somewhere, but I'm working on it :smashfreakb:

:=D:

Anyways, here's a little cheerer on. (?? cheerer ??) :cheer2:

Father in heaven, please bless ValleyGal with your grace and wisdom,
grant her strength and encouragement to carry on in joy in Jesus' name. Amen.
:cheer:
