That's right. We have Earth Day, and now its also Put a Hater on Ignore Day.

The idea is to clean up the forums by putting the provocateurs on Ignore, at least for a week to see how much the forums can be improved. Please join in.

I agree in concept. I rarely utilize the ignore function at a forum site but if I feel a poster is just generally antagonistic or just can't communicate in a positive manner then I don't engage them not wanting to 'fuel their fire.'

I seldom put people on ignore. At present I have one person on my ignore list. Usually it seems that by the time someone looks enough like a troll to earn a place on my ignore list they look enough like a troll to be shown the door permanently within a short time. I'm wondering if my record will maintain its accuracy with the current poster.

I am not sure that that *being shown the door* process is functioning at present, but anyway, the bigger issue is whether or not breaking the cycle of provocations prompting responses prompting more insults will be short-circuited if some gaps in the sequence are put in place.

Being shown the door is something only the mods/admins can do and is generally a last resort (and rightly so).

In a lot of ways it's better for a user to realise nobody is interested in what they have to say and move on of their own accord, but sometimes if a user is particularly disruptive without adding anything of any value they end up booted.

I know. That's why this action here is worth doing.

I actually thought that this was a real thing and looked it up on Yahoo!. There are so many of these secular events and holidays that I can't really tell which ones are real and which aren't. :;-D:

Anyone you choose to ignore, I guess. As it is, I haven't chosen you :)
There was a certain "flat earther" who was tolerated beyond (imo) what was reasonable before finally being shown the way out, but I don't recall any others

I believe that some fires self ignite. I agree with your sentiment.

Since I was maybe 10 years old, I've never put anyone on my "ignore" list. And I have no intention of doing so.

But there IS wisdom in not responding to false prophets..... sometimes attempting to correct them (as yeah the Bible tells us to do) only gives them an opportunity to shout their lies. I think of Jesus at the Temptation; He did not argue, He simply quoted (verbatim) the WORDS of Scripture and left it there.

People come to a site like this with an agenda (VERY rarely stated). There are many such agendas. One of them is to proclaim some idea they have come up with that is unorthodox and contrary to well-established biblical teaching. They often think themselves uniquely led by God and uniquely smart and uniquely have an individual mandate to present their heresy. SOMETIMES (well, I can think of an example or two) there's enough humility and faith that they can be taught. But often the egoism and individualism is SO intense, SO dominate, that (like Satan) God Himself is wasting His breath and time (they are simply smarter than God or view themselves, unqiuely, individually, as the Mouth, the Voice of God which God must agree with). They believe all must humbly submit - but that doesn't apply to them toward God but to everyone (including God) to them. Such false teachers are best ignored- although I admit and confess I often lack the wisdom to do that.

... which seems like a good reason to put them on ignore.

Sometimes discussing seems like casting pearls before swine. It's said that there's no point trying to teach a pig to sing, because it wastes your time and annoys the pig. Hence the ignore list, for the times I don't even want to see what someone is writing because the chance are high it will be unrewarding to read and unproductive to address.

Yeah as Christians we are suppose to love. But then again, it is hard even on a board of Christians tempers can flare up. Sad but true.

There's a difference betweeen disagreement (even passionate disagreement) and the kind of person who just trolls a forum to get a rise out of people.

Al, I've lost count of days. Am I on ignore or off? Your response or not will tell me. [emoji16]
