Sometimes we get in the way of getting where we want to be in life.

Learn to recognize signs of self-sabotage:

1) Negative thinking or negative self-talk
2) Procrastination
3) Perfectionism

Identify Root Causes of self-sabotage
For some people it's stress and for others it might be about self-worth.

Change your behavior
You're either going to move toward your goal or away from it. Your behavior plays a part in how you decide your next maneuver.
Avoid certain triggers or even certain people who trigger you.
Realize that even baby steps are progress.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was thinking about this as I was vacuuming today and one thing that stuck in my mind was my friend who is trying to diet and realized how she was sabotaging it by letting the kids have snacks around. She chose to tell her kids that if they wanted snacks they had to keep them in her room out of her sight in a box and it's working out for her. Out of sight out of mind!

This is pretty much against the Orthodox theology. Orthodox elders usually taught us to consider ourselves worthless sinners saved by God's Grace and to spend a lot of time thinking about our past sins and about death.

It's interesting how perfectionism can stop us from making progress. In most cases it's better to do something reasonably well than to not do it because you can't get it 100% perfect.

Didn't they also then give you the Gospel that Jesus died FOR YOU?

How could you be worthless if God made you? We are made in God's image. You are badly mistaken.

I'll have to read that later because I'm a HUGE perfectionist! Details matter a lot to me and order is important. I love organizing and I'm good at it but it probably means I waste too much time too in doing it.

Details matter, but sometimes it's better to do just get on and do a good job of something than wait until you can do a 100% perfect job.

A friend of mine who taught me a few woodworking tricks is often quick to remind me that ultra precision isn't necessary when working with wood. Having done a small amount of fairly high precision work (working to a tolerance of 0.002") it's easy to forget that when cutting shelving or table legs the chances are pretty solid that nothing is going to be quite square and, in most cases, nobody will notice if you're 1/20" off.
