For my very closest friends I've known since childhood I tell them I love them often! We never said it while growing up but now when we write to each other in messages or emails we say it. You never know how much longer you'll be on this earth so it's good to tell others how you feel.

Since you ask, I feel uncomfortable saying it except in special cases, but I think that Lamm is right that we ought not to be overly reluctant when we really do feel a special bond or sense of gratitude towards someone. Tell them while you can.

Yes I do. Cause I do love them. I have a bestfriend who I consider a mom that I say I love you all the time.

I used to say it to my dad but he's gone now. With friends sometimes I say it. I do love everyone and try to show that as best I can.

I never thought about it, but I say it when I think they need to hear it. When they are hurting and they have confided in me or when they have pulled me out of situation that is priceless that I couldn't repay other than to say "I love you". It would have to be a good friend, I don't have close friends, but I do have a lot of friends.

I frequently do this with friends, whether offline or online. In my case though, it was instilled in me that it was okay by my 'big sister' who remained my friend even after I was too old for the big sister/big brother program. She always did it with me, and now I do it with a lot of my buddies. But, there's another reason in my case: friends are family to me, and you shouldn't hide your love from your family!

I don't tend to say it directly to friends, but say it in another way/manner (like "your the only friend I'd ever need", etc.). To me, it just feels super odd to say it since it's more of a thing between partners than it is for friends (and the gets odd when you say it to a friend who is another sex, when your in a relationship).
