Can you please provide sources to back up your claim? I can’t find any.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

Do you know why Catholics claim the Talmud they’re referencing dated back to the 5th century BC? Here’s the quote from a Catholic Apologist:

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

The fact that the Jews wouldn’t even have the books of Maccabees if it wasn’t for the church preserving them. That’s big.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

Since when did Andrew or I claim that the apocrypha was a part of the ORIGINAL Septuagint? The Septuagint was translated about 250 BC. But Maccabees didn’t happen until 160 BC. So obviously the books of the Maccabees couldn’t have been a part of the ORIGINAL Septuagint that existed in 250 BC...

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

The Maccabees happened in 160 BC. That’s BEFORE Christ. It didn’t happen in the 4th century AD. It’s not a Catholic invention. So what are you claiming exactly? The Maccabees obviously existed before the 4th century AD. Why would anyone suspect that? That’s silly.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

Is there a reason to suspect that the Greek Septuagint didn’t contain any of the apocryphal books before the 4th century AD, and then after the 4th century *POOF!* it just magically appeared because Christians decided to add them for no reason? I mean, what’s the story here? Why would one...

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

It’s good to read. But it’s dangerous, so don’t read it. But it’s historically useful, so read it. But it has historical mistakes, so don’t read it.

    Does Satan cast out Satan?

You copied and pasted Origen from an entirely different thread without even addressing the topic? Where’s the bait and switch? I mentioned Tobit right from the start. How about answering the question. Does Satan cast out Satan?

Septuagint was made 250 BC. You should know that.

    Does Satan cast out Satan?

Yea, must have been those Catholics that lived before the time of Christ.

    Does Satan cast out Satan?

I was confused, because people said the Apocryphal book of Tobit endorses sorcery, because Tobias used animal organs for driving out a demon. But Acts 13 says that a sorcerer is a son of the Devil. I can’t imagine a son of the Devil casting out a demon. Didn’t Jesus say somewhere that Satan...

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

Andrew already did. Jewish Talmud. Also, the Greek Septuagint is pre-Christ. Also, Dead Sea Scrolls, they pre-date Christ. Tobit and Sirach found in Hebrew among them. The author of Hebrews said that he accepted 2 Maccabees.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

I love ALL the books of the Bible. Even the ones that don’t have the clear, undeniable, Messianic prophecies that point to Christ. What Messianic prophecies in Esther point to Christ? I don’t know. But it’s a real account of how God in his sovereignty listened to the prayers of his people and...

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

And also because we know that the Jews removed things from the Hebrew, which the Greek Septuagint preserves. The Jews who lived before the time of Christ accepted these books. The unbelieving Jews who lived after the time of Christ rejected them.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

I’m not speculating that Melito’s list is missing Esther. I read Wikipedia which said that Melito was Jewish. If you think that’s wrong, then prove it.

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

And what’s your point? Daniel 9 clearly points to Christ. Undeniably. I KNOW that. Daniel 8 and 11 point to other things like Hanukkah, and Christ took time out of his schedule to travel to Jerusalem during the Feast of Hanukkah. If Christ values it, then so should you and your congregation...

    Ecclesiasticals VS Canonical

Jewish by birth, Melito lived in an atmosphere where the type of Christianity practiced was largely oriented toward the Jewish form of the Christian faith. Given the fact that Melito’s list omitted the book of Esther, and the fact that he actually had to travel to Palestine to get his list...
