    Well, Jesus did it!

It would depend on the context. If someone is a whitewashed tomb it seems fair to call it out. Some would counter with "judge not lest ye be judged yourself" but that in turn ignores the context of Matthew 7:1

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Today I need to make some progress on cutting some windowsills. I meant to make some progress this week but time got on, and with the granddaughters coming to visit last night I wanted the space cleaned up with the wood and power tools removed. I don't imagine they could do any damage to slabs...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Lazy day today. A couple of phone calls to catch up with people I haven't seen in a while, lunch with a friend, and a lazy afternoon on the porch with my wife watching the world go by.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

The maple bowl is finished on the lathe. It's tricky to sand on the lathe because the fibers cut one way and then lay flat when I sand. Some lathes offer the option to turn the other way for sanding, but mine is an old one that doesn't, so I just do the best I can. Now it's sitting in a box of...

What kind of phone do you use?

These days companies endlessly waffle on about how dedicated they are to the environment, while making stuff designed to break and go to landfill in a few years because it's impossible to repair it. Either that or they are so committed to the environment that the consumer has to pay to recycle...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Yesterday I turned another small bowl out of a piece of sycamore. Today I've mounted a smaller piece maple on the lathe ready to be turned into something. I don't know what yet, I'll see what shape it wants to form when I start working on it.

What's the biggest confusion about Christianity?

I'm often surprised how people think Christians shouldn't drink alcohol at all. I've surprised a few non-believers and new believers simply by ordering a beer with dinner.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I managed to score a couple of maple logs while out running today. I saw a couple of guys standing beside the obvious remains of a tree, so stopped and asked them about it. The wood was spoken for - it was destined to be firewood - but they agreed to let me take a couple of small pieces for my...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Today I get to spend some time cutting windowsills, and finishing up the bowl I started turning yesterday. So far I've cut the outside shape of it, although I think I'm going to tweak the shape to make it a little more striking. Then I get to hollow it out. That's tricky with the kind of shape...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Aside from the tedium of taxes, I got to spend a little time on my lathe today. I also picked up some very nice pieces of red oak that I'm going to make into windowsills.

It doesn't make it any less frustrating filling in the same information in multiple places... ETA: I need to file a return as soon as my annual income hits $33. That's thirty three dollars, I didn't miss anything off the end.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Ugh. It's that time of year again. So far my morning has consisted of preparing tax forms. I should have done it earlier, I know.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Church this morning, then a small celebration with my daughter and one granddaughter. This evening I turned a small bowl for my wife, from a piece of sycamore.

    Should non-citizens hold government jobs?

It depends what you mean by a government job. If you're talking about a job that involves lawmaking and representing the people I'd say the person should be a citizen, whether natural born or naturalized. If you're talking about the guy who prints licenses at the DMV or drives the truck for...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

No woodwork for me today. I went into town to help my daughter with some admin stuff and just as I was finishing up I got a text from a friend asking if I wanted to meet for a swift beer over lunch. I hadn't seem him for a few weeks so went and did that, and by the time I'd got a walk in it...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Today I got to play with the lathe some more. I took a fairly thin flat piece of sycamore and turned it into a square plate. Then I took a branch of sycamore and turned it into a near-spherical bowl with a flat bottom to stop it rolling around. Holling out the middle of that was tricky but I...

    Rummage Sale Tips needed

New stuff is good. Lightly used stuff is good. Tools that are rusted and broken are not so good (I've seen someone trying to sell tools in such poor condition it's hard to see how anyone could use them at all) Free stuff is good because if someone can use it, it saves them a bit of money and...

What kind of phone do you use?

I have a Pixel 9, I got it when they first came out and will probably keep it until I have to fight the urge to throw it at the wall because it's so slow. I seldom change my phone, I've been using cellphones since 1995 and this is about my 7th phone. When I first got it a few friends commented...

    Rummage Sale Tips needed

I've often wondered how much money these kinds of sales actually generate. I've been to a few sales - sometimes there's some interesting stuff that people just don't want any more, and sometimes it looks like someone is just trying to salvage a handful of change by selling stuff that would...
