"America" is now offensive to N and S America

People used to use "he/his/him in English as the pronoun for any human being but nowadays people are aware that women like to be referred to as she/hers/her and not as he/his/him. That is understandable. Similarly people with darker skin pigment prefer polite terms rather than the old terms that...

"America" is now offensive to N and S America

The name that Englishmen use for themselves is English when they want to be specific, British when they want to speak of the Island from which they come, and citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland when they want to be technically correct. People from the USA are...

"America" is now offensive to N and S America

People from wales are British but not English. Similarly people from Scotland are British but not English and people from England are English as well as British but it would be objectionable for English people to insist that their country be called Britain and that only English people are...

"America" is now offensive to N and S America

Yes, it is very different. Had you asked is it any different from the way Welsh and Scottish people call themselves "English" then you'd be closer except that Welshmen and Scots call themselves "English" only sarcastically while USA people call themselves "Americans" without intended irony.

"America" is now offensive to N and S America

The name of the USA is "United States of America" not "America". America is the name of the continent; though English speakers typically divide it into two Continents, namely North America and South America. The largest land area in North America is occupied by Canada. The USA is the most...

1 Maccabees was originally written in Hebrew

It does not matter in which language 1 & 2 Maccabees were first written. What matters is that the Church recognises in them the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the authorship of God. Once any part of the holy scriptures is made "holy" by its alleged pedigree, its alleged "original language"...

    TOBIT -by NathanH83

The reason for my posts to atpollard is to both show what comes from the type of critique he offered about Tobit and how devastating the results of the approach he used regarding Tobit are when it is applied to the rest of canonical holy scripture. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the...

    TOBIT -by NathanH83

I believe everything in the holy scriptures according to its intended meaning and intended purpose. I can quote a summary of my view for you if you like. I hold that the books of both the Old and New Testaments in their entirety, with all their parts, are sacred and canonical because written...

    TOBIT -by NathanH83

Of course it does, the grammar and whatever else is used as evidence suggests that Moses had absolutely nothing to do with the Pentateuch. Isaiah had nothing to do with the book bearing his name, and Daniel was a mythical character in an ancient Hebrew novel.

    TOBIT -by NathanH83

It's interesting how easily the historical critical method of analysing holy scripture is applied by Protestants to a book like Tobit but rejected by Evangelical for each and every one of the books that Protestants say are canonical. Tobit could just as easily be a work written in cuneiform...

    A simple question

Dear friend, my faith is not IN the gospel it is in Jesus Christ. The gospel is good news about Jesus Christ but I do not love, believe, and trust the good news it is the one about which the gospel tells that I believe, love, and trust.

    A simple question

No, faith is believing and apparently trusting too but many people who believe and trust fear. Jesus feared in the garden of Gethsemane. If God incarnate feared who can expect people not to?

Universal basic income & the robot revolution.

There are people who make a living out of predicting trends in technology and possible (they might say likely or highly probable) changes in society and culture that will be the result of new technologies when they are introduced. Some get called "futurologists". I've heard some of them as they...

    Some Reagan Wisdom

Ronald Regan was not so wise. His time in office saw the disastrous Savings & Loan collapse which plunged USA national and state budgets into serious deficits with a lasting national debt in the hundreds of billions and from which the nation has not recovered yet. And now with Donald Trump at...
