For Halloween we had picked up 2 pumpkins for our daughter and one rotted but I was able to salvage some pumpkin seeds out of it. The other is a gray pumpkin and I just cut into it today (our daughter was preparing to move out and never got around to carving her pumpkins) and the skin is the thickest I've ever encountered and the flesh has a strange scent to it that's more sweet than the orange pumpkins. I don't plan on cooking anything with it and I put it outside for the deer to munch on. There was a deer in our yard this morning hanging around.

I've never seen or even heard of a grey pumpkin. I had to Google it, they look pretty cool. Are they engineered? Are they edible? I didn't read about them, I just wanted to see a picture, some call them blue pumpkins. We sometimes get a dozen deer in the back yard and they rest up against our fence. There is a person near my house that sets out salt blocks and they may have 20 deer out there! Even though it looks so cool, it makes it a little dangerous for people that don't know that they set out salt. The house is on a busy street and the deer wonder into the road constantly.

I read that they're good for making soups. I wasn't used to that particular smell of pumpkin since it was so sweet so I'm not sure how it would relate to a soup. It was a really thick pumpkin though so there was a lot of meat to make something.
