Romanos suggested setting up a side site that people could check in case CH ever goes down again. An email account unrelated to the site should be an option too so that members could contact him if there are connectivity issues.

How about setting up a mailing list to keep folk informed, or both a mailing list and a web site. The web site need not be hosted by the same company; a free website would do.

I suggest a mass email.... The site automatically knows the email address of all users; it should be very easy to send out a mass email to us. I suggest one when things go down, and every couple of days after that to update us.

I got an email from this website about this problem .... was it UNIQUELY sent just to ME?

Perhaps a regular off-site backup of contact information (not including anything sensitive) ought to be made so that those running CH may access the contact email addresses when the host is not available.

That was sent as soon as Romanos was able to log in

Yes, we do have email addresses. I have no idea if the records can be pulled to be used off this site. Manually recording them would not be a fun job.

If they are stored in a relational database then a simple SQL query can extract them and the query results can ve saved either as a text file or as an excel spreadsheet or whatever seems most convenient.

I'm sure Mark knows more about the guts of the system than I do but I'd have thought it would be easy enough to set up a database trigger to do something, even if only create a matching entry in a database on another server. Of course that requires access to another server, which may cost more $$$.

email info is essential when the forum goes down in future. when forum went down, i had hard time trying to contact staff. i have no interest in joining facebook

I think a Faceache group can be set up to be public, so you don't need an account to get at it.

dont know about you but when i reply to thread and hit post quick reply, a message says "are you sure you want to navigate away from this page" -then it posts the reply . not all the time mind you.
