"Two Democratic-led House committees are investigating Vice President Mike Pence's recent trip to Ireland, where he lodged at a Trump golf resort, and President Donald Trump's desire to host next year's G7 Summit at his exclusive Doral golf resort in Miami as potential violations of the U.S. Constitution's Emoluments Clauses.

The Oversight and Judiciary Committees sent letters to several Trump administration agencies and officials on Friday, including the White House and its top attorney, the vice president, the Secret Service and the Trump Organization, requesting documents and information about the matter, including costs. The probe comes as the Judiciary Committee continues to investigate whether to file articles of impeachment against Trump.

"The Committee does not believe that U.S. taxpayer funds should be used to personally enrich President Trump, his family, and his companies," Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, wrote.

Pence's trip has come under scrutiny for his decision to lodge at Trump's golf resort in Doonberg, Ireland, which was about 180 miles away from where his meetings with foreign leaders took place. A top aide to Pence at first said the vice president was acting on a "suggestion" by Trump to stay at the resort, a comment that was later walked back by the aide and denied by the administration."

Do you think it is ethical for Pence to stay at a resort that Trump owes and for the President to personally profit from his time in office such as having an internal group of leaders stay at his resort? Would it not be better to go out of the way to not look like you are personally profiting from this?

If it was just Trump doing this that would be one thing. But let's face it, it's not as if every other president has been perfectly ethical and above board and only Trump has managed to profit. If Pence has to stay somewhere does it really matter if he stays at a place owned by Trump or a place owned by someone else, as long as Trump's prices aren't artificially inflated for the stay?

One comparable question might be how the previously all-but unknown Senator Barack Obama took the top job paying something like $400,000 annually and after eight years was able to rustle up north of $10m for a new mansion.

We're talking about the same Trump who doesn't take his Presidential salary right? If he was really so money hungry he'd want that salary too.

Now, here's what kills me. I read that the hotel rates are cheaper than some of the other hotels and if that's the case and Pence had chosen a higher cost hotel Trump would be blamed for that too. Nitpicking since 2016 is getting more and more annoying each day. Can't our government focus on getting some work done?

Did you look at the article? It says the place Pence stayed was 180 miles away from where the meetings Pence was scheduled to go to was to take place. The meetings was actually in Dublin which is Ireland's capital. Surely he could have found somewhere closer to stay?

He has family near the hotel. If I had the choice I'd stay near family too.

It does increasingly seem like the Democrats are just throwing more and more mud in what looks like an ever-more desperate hope that something, anything, will stick.

Because this is SOOO much more important than having them do some work for the country.

Nope, it’s a clear and simple conflict of interest.

The previous president did this to a much greater degree...and we heard hardly a peep out of any media or Democrat types about it. His wife took several vacations abroad, at taxpayer expense, costing between 20 and 40 million each--and took 20 or more servants and friends with her. Those jaunts cost almost half of the $85,000,000 that we spent on the Obama family's vacations.

And as has been mentioned already, Trump voluntarily waived his presidential salary, meaning that he has paid in advance, and several times over, for the things you are going on about.

I'd forgotten about Michelle's extravagant vacations! The Obamas definitely enjoyed living the good life!
