$1 but I really like the bold togetherness $2

I see what you mean now tango. How many posts have you found that are affected? We can always edit them as staff?

Lots of posts are affected but they can be cured by placing a \ before the \$

Since it seems fat more likely that a \$ would be used to denote a price than a big ugly formula my thinking is to change the marker for a formula and fix broken posts as they are found.

A hat ^ or a pipe | or anything else that isn't likely to appear more than once in an everyday post.

But if Mark makes changes only to this site's mod and then updates his mod on other sites...he'll have to go back in and make the changes each time he updates.

Do we have a list of how many times this has affected postings in this area?

If \$ is easier then we can use \\$ and be fine.

It would only require editing the script that is added to the page, which is changeable in the settings, and not hard-coded. My only concern is having to locate all previous posts that use $\LaTeX$ and editing them.

Honestly, if the posts are historical and aren't being read any more it doesn't matter if we don't get to them right away, and if they are new ones we can find them easily enough. We can even ask people to report posts that look like broken Latex so we can fix them.

I still think that using the \$ sign as a marker for a formula is something that should change, even if only to preserve sanity going forward. All the previous posts that need changing will be in this forum, and I'd suspect there aren't all that many of them. Would it be possible to identify them with a SQL query, or at least narrow down the number of posts that need human attention with a query?

ETA: From the original post it looks like we'd be looking for any posts with two \$ signs with either curly braces or backslashes between them.

I think that formatting problem involving \$ came before your post about using $\LaTeX$ .

But we can't be certain $\LaTeX$ exists...so I'm stymied at this point...

I believe it exists because you say so. I have still no idea what you all are talking about though. I'm a Latexist.

$\LaTeX$ is a markup language that allows us to display pretty mathematical expressions, such as:

$\displaystyle \int_a^b f(x)\,dx=F(b)-F(a) $

But, I must assume that you see the anti-derivative form of the fundamental theorem of calculus above and not an image of mad kitty. ;)

I did...in the OP.

Ooooh yes. I see you said exactly the same thing. Now I finally get it. Handy for if I want to post some mathematical expressions.

Yes I have a question.

but then you get:

Section

underneath the page:

How do you get the white space under the text instead of between the title and the text?
