Back around 2000, I was on The Bible Forum. It was some VB forum and it was cool for awhile - but then these white nationalist Christians came in, like Vikings, and took over everything. Soon, they were bullying everyone, saying anyone who didn't agree with them (their core beliefs) wasn't a real Christian.

OK, well, the first encounters were quite amusing - as I had never talked with such political extremists before - and actually, I was probably over-hostile. I was already pre-conditioned to view them as monsters - while, even though, that's true for the theology - it can be an overstatement for individuals.

Did they break any rules of that site or were they just a nuisance to have around? On this site we have the Ignore feature that is a nice thing.

Like Lammchen said, I would use the ignore feature and not talk to them or read their posts.

I rejoice that here at CH, we've experience little of this sort of thing.

As most know, I hold to a very open view of forums like this. But I acknowledge, some CAN make discussions very difficult and must be dealt with very specifically. But I agree with Lamm anjd jsimms435 - using that ignore feature is the first and best approach.

MANY years ago, I was a part of a Catholic youth forum (actually run by a Catholic parish school). For some time, all went well..... we got an occasional "anti-Catholic" idiot and we handle this with just the "ignore" feature and they seemed to go away (we were lucky). Then, we got this group who would post porn (I guess they got jollies from posting horrible images to Catholic kids.... go figure). I was not on staff, but there were a few of us who had the ability to "hide" a post (we only made it invisible) and this action automatially reported this to the Staff (which was just 2 of the teachers), who dealt with it. I recall one night.... this guy came on and I followed him for hours, until maybe 2:00 AM, before he finally gave up.... he's post something, I'd hide it! Oh yeah, life on these forums can be a challenge. BUT generally, I look to the community to deal with this - mostly by IGNORING them. If they can't stir up anything, they leave. Hopefully.

I would be interested to have posted a few examples of that white nationalist theology. The OP seemed to go out of its way to avoid giving any hints.

Reminds me of a feature of another board I helped admin, where it had a "discouraged user" feature. If you were a "discouraged user" you'd be subjected to random delays, web errors, timeouts, that sort of thing. It was a handy way to encourage someone to leave of their own accord and go bother the admins on another board.

That's a plugin for XenForo and InvisionPower Board, if I'm not mistaken. Personally, I wouldn't use it. I think I've tested it on one of my forums in the past. It doesn't seem like a very Christian-like way of dealing with the people with disagree with. If they break the rules, exile them from the forums. If they repent and want to return, receive them back. It sounds simple enough. Why make their life difficult indefinitely?

I didn't know there even are white identity Christian churches...

Do you have a list or a url?

It's not for the kind of person that needs a bit of gentle correction, it's for the kind of person out to cause trouble. If you ban a troublemaker there's a fair chance they'll be back with a different name, and then you get into the whole question of whether this user is that user with a different name. If you just persuade them to leave of their own accord it's less likely they'll be back under a different name.

I didn't say anything about Republicans. I asked you to put some substance behind your revelation about white nationalists (now in this reply turned into white supremacists, for some reason).

Are you unable?

White nationalist/supremacist does seem a convenient label. if I, as an experiment, wore a 'MAGA' cap about town for a day I wonder how long before the label applied to me. I live in an area highly populated by First Nations (Native American) and work with them directly in my job. I can imagine that the fact I'm not a white nationalist/supremacist would matter little.

I can't even remember the domain name. It was so long ago (around 2000). Well, they had posts where they claimed Noah's flood was to cleanse race-mixers - and also one claimed Klansmen were God's Elect.

OK, they were white supremacists, not white nationalists of say, the Fox News variety. But.. white supremacists use the label white nationalist!

To answer that...How long would it take for someone to notice the hat? ;)

We have all noticed that white nationalist and white supremacist and white privilege more or less burst onto the scene at the same time. Nobody was talking about any of them before, let alone pointing fingers at particular people; but then scores of prominent Liberals and their allies in the media were talking as though all of these were as commonplace and threatening as ISIS!

That attitude against "race-mixers" was actually very common across the country earlier, what is seen of it in the last couple of decades is a remnant of that.

They are not new at all. You might know of them to have "more or less burst onto the scene at the same time", but that would have been over a century ago. The news now is with surprise at how they are numerous in this time in the twenty-first century.

Well, I think you missed the point. Yes, both of those have been heard about previously, but so have Whigs and Copperheads.

The point was not that these we were told about in the original post were invented yesterday but that any mention of them was rare until suddenly the Left-wing of American politics was talking in unison about how these were everywhere--threatening all Americans and infiltrating every organization and association (except, of course, for the ones associated with the far Left). ;)
