Serious question. Have your allergies reacted during an Orthodox service?

I meant this as a joke.... but true, I don't have significant facial hair and the incense I've experienced in Orthodox churches does seem to bother me significantly (enough so that in one case, I had to leave). Would these seriously keep me from the EOC if I conclude it the best? No.

I'm the type of person who would load the censer up with a ton of incense. :p

One time my wife and I went to vespers and it was held in their chapel which is rather tight quarters. Anyway the associate priest was fairly new and he not only loaded up the thurible he kept adding incense throughout the service. I like incense but he pretty much smoked us out. :hot:

That associate priest was doubtless a Russian!

Those guys are Incense Behemoths!!

Oversize and overweight knuckle-draggers I say!

Did you notice the aroma of the Chapel as you entered?

I love the smell of Orthodox Churches!

I wonder if Zz top are Eastern Orthodox ;)

A pretty hot late 40's woman pulled over in an intersection in her car as I was crossing the street one day...
Rolled down her window with a big inviting smile...
"Grateful Dead?" she asked...

So that is the poser -

What to say that will be helpful...

How to respond as an Icon of Christ...

So what would YOU say...

With your big fat beard?

With your hair down to your belt?

All dressed in black and no cassock?

It's gotta be a fast answer...

Traffic in the intersection, you know...

No time to ponder...

Don't want to put her off...

Don't want to encourage her...

Only got a second and a half tops...

What to say, what to say???

"Yes - Orthodox Christian!!"

And the day went on...

Mount Athos: An American Protestant Pilgrimage

This is a very genuine account...

Venerating Relics of Saints is problematic for us western types...

Nor does he shy away from it...

Elder Aimilianos, former Abbot of Simonopetra Monastery on Mt. Athos died...

A very major person in my world, though I never met him...

Here is a small window into a great Saint in the Orthodox Faith...

Here again, from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the Holy Fire descends to light the candles of the Patriarch, and then the whole assembly at Pascha...

At minute 5:12-13, as the Patriarch emerges from the cave with the Fire, you can see it shoot to the right [his left] and light candles some 25-30 feet away...

We have this Fire from two Pascha's ago still burning in our Altar here in the US...

We have had some discussions - OK, Yes, That is a generous assessment of the exchanges - about the Faith in Children Baptized early into Christ...

This one looks to be all of 7 years old...

She is already chanting beautifully...

And look at the clarity in her sweet face...

Children know how to know God...

A child receiving Holy Communion is at 2:25...

The term orthodox means correct teaching. Anyone who practices correct teaching from Scripture is orthodox.

I have no taste for corruptible food...
Nor for the pleasures of life...
I desire the Bread of God...
Which is the Flesh of Jesus Christ...
Who was of the Seed of David...
And for Drink I desire His Blood...
Which is Love Incorruptable...

St. Ignatius of Antioch

If one were to put all of the world's most precious things...
On one side of a scale...
And the Divine Liturgy on the other...
The scales would tip completely...
In favor of the Liturgy...

St. John of Kronstadt

Mel Gibson is mentioned in this video out of a little town a hundred miles north of Damascus, where locals are film critics of his Passion movie...

Because the movie had Christ speaking Aramaic...

And they speak it too...

Muslims better than Christians...

Amazing clip...

And now for "The Bible Answer Man" to weigh in...

Mr. Hank Hannigraf of near total Biblical recall...

The Sola Scriptura man among men...

A man whom I should add many Protestants detest now...

I am not sure, but I think he came down with cancer...

And in the "Come to Jesus" time after that, he came to Orthodoxy:

Here he is talking about it:

Jesus said to not hinder the children from coming to him. With this it really settles when children reach accountability. Some of us see children coming to Jesus very early in their lives. They show, regardless that this is not what they themselves mean to do, that they are capable as any who are older, to respond to the good news of Jesus and come to him in faith. It is just that most of us who came to Jesus in faith did so much later than when it is possible. That includes myself, I did so much later than it would be possible, in the late teenage years. But having a biblical Christian family helps a great deal for that, while I and many others haven't had that. So Christian testimony outside of the family is very important.

Hank Hanegraaff is well known for his dealing with cults, and heresies among Christians. I don't just agree with things that are distinct in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. But being in that is not contrary to anything essential in Christianity, as far as I know. Hank Hanegraaff did not have to turn from any position he held against the cults and the heresies among Christians in turning to Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Yet there is simplicity in the gospel of Christ, in Christianity, with which things distinct to that Eastern Orthodoxy are not needed, for all its history. What is communicated for us in the Bible is needed, still, yet while many are neglecting a number of things from that, to argue for things that are not in the Bible. So we should pay attention much more to what is said for us in the Bible, and not just a part of it, either.
