So is anyone besides the little parish Church of which I am a member
going to be doing the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy New Year's Eve tonight?

Most Orthodox monastic communities will -
For them, every night is the All Night Vigil...

Very few local parishes do these Services on New Year's Eve...
We are very blessed to have a pastor who does it...

Usually 10-20 folks come...
As we pray in the New Year...
And pray for all the party-goers...
And their designated drivers...

My church has a New Year's Eve service but I'm going to be too tired after driving to pick up my daughter from the airport to attend. I usually don't do evening services since my church is far for travel and I am tired in the evenings.

Neither my Lutheran or the Orthodox Church I attend on occasions are having a New Years Eve vigil although the Orthodox Church has vigils occasionally throughout the year.

We are not doing anything for New Years. We are going to a new church and I'm not sure if they are are doing a service.

I'm hanging by myself. My wife went to Florida to see her father who's visiting from Venezuela.

Fireworks!

We watched the fireworks.

9:00pm for families and 12:00 midnight for the big show.

Sydney has one of the earliest displays worldwide, and is reputedly one of the best.

For us, fireworks are one of the wonders of creation.

(Because God established the science that led to their development.)

==============================================================================================

I attended a New Year’s Eve vigil once when I was a teenager. Once that was over, I was invited to go ten pin bowling. I went along, to fit in. But there seemed to be a conflict of atmosphere and purpose in there somewhere.

Give me the fireworks.

I wonder when the Apostles, being Jewish, held their New Year’s Eve vigil. (If they held one at all, that is.)

I went to bed early. I heard a little bit of fireworks but crazy. With Jordan's PTSD he hated them. They didn't bother me this year unlike other years.

We had fireworks here too for a bit. I think people like New Years Eve here as much as they like the 4th of July!

It’s good to know that dylsexics like me can land important jobs. But maybe not that one.

Combat PTSD is something I hadn’t thought about. It must be devastating in ways and situations I cannot imagine. The closest I can come (and this gives me a sense of empathy) is the horrible fear I felt every day on the way to school during the early years, because of the severe bullying I was going to be subjected to when I got there.

We started the Service of the All Night Vigil at 9:30PM - 9 of us...
By 11PM there were 11 worshippers...
I was struggling to stay awake and vertical...
12:02AM and I walked over to pick up a candle...
I counted 15 souls - Some in the shadows at the back...
Midnight to 1:45AM was the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil...
The Feast of the Circumcision of our Lord the 40th day of His infant life...
And the Feast Day of St. Basil...
The rest went out seeking a hamburger...
I went to bed...

I do not know a better way to enter into the new year that to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord in it's first two hours...

I thank God for this Faith...

I thank Lämmchen for her kind thought in Post #18.

I’m OK most of the time these days, but sometimes the deep, ingrained subconscious conditioning takes over in some situations.

Not that I’m complaining. I see it as part of the process to keep me on the “straight and narrow”, as it were.
