This year back in May I started running. I ran in a 5k in July and then kept training and ran in another one about two weeks ago.
I have a bulging disc in my neck that has been there for a few years. When the nerve was pinched it hurt from my neck to my right thumb.
Now, I am noticing that I have upper right arm numbness and pain again. So, I am thinking I may have to give up running as the pounding of the pavement is literally too much for my neck to deal with. I am going to the doctor Monday to see if he has any suggestions.

I had to give up running years ago when I broke my leg. It sucks. But... if you like running, try deep-water running. Some people say it's good. I would still miss the wind in my hair, the variety of routes I would take, the fresh air....

I think you need to do all you can to protect your nerves. That's nothing to mess with.

How do you feel about changing it to speed walking for a while? Less stress on body parts.

What about running on the grass or fast walking on the grass?

the problem is the pounding that happens during running. So, I can still walk all I want and can do elliptical or bike riding and probably swimming though I don't have access to a pool to swim. I walked for a little over an hour today outside. I'm seeing a sports medicine doctor on Monday morning to discuss what he thinks.

I prefer swimming to running...... no sweating and it's a LOT easier on the bod....

I hope the doctor will be helpful for you.

i am going to do some physical therapy and traction, but the doctor said if I wanted to run then go ahead and run.
If physical therapy doesn't work then I will need an MRI to determine what to do next

Have you chosen to continue running then in the meantime?

My job is changing and with it I will be working some different hours

Will those changed hours be for the good or bad?

I have no idea when I would find the time to run Monday through Thursday, especially when it is getting dark earlier.

You might have to switch to walking more throughout the day? Force yourself to walk 15 minutes before you eat lunch maybe? I read that 15 minutes of brisk activity a few times throughout the day is really good for the body.

I doubt I would do that if it is cold outside

Is there no place to walk inside? Even walking in place and running in place is activity and you can do it for 15 minutes.

After my surgeries I did most of my walking inside to get my steps. I just did laps around the house going in and out of rooms.

Our office is really small. Four rooms and a small hallway. On nice days I may go outside down the block and back. We will see. I know they just opened a new gym in my town, but I am not sure what the hours are for it
