Yes prayers for safety and a turning of the hurricane. This is a very dangerous storm and has the potential to be very devastating.

I was flooded and displaced last year with Harvey, Austin was getting flooded and in Houston too and the dam was keeping them flooded so they released the dam into the Colorado river which in turn flooded us out. I forgive them for not warning us (it literally crept up in the middle of the night within 2 hours!) but it's been hush hush here because they would get sued for not warning us but like I said, it happened and it saved lives and no casualties happened in my area so it all worked out.
As for my area, the rain didn't do us in but the release of the dams did us in, luckily my house is on a manmade hill which saved it, I parked my car halfway up the hill and it saved my car but I did have to take a boat down my road to get out.
I don't believe this storm will hit us this time but we are on guard anyway.

Such as Florence, South Carolina.

That seems like kind of a dirty trick.

I'm scared for them, I don't believe they have been hit in a while especially with a storm that strong, I pray they don't take it lightly and I hope they prepare. I remember how Galveston had so much casualty because they wanted to stay home, some people are hard headed, I know some personally and they aren't quick to evacuate.

Camp Lejeune military base is not evacuating :( I have friends there who had to request a leave in order to go. Their home there was not built very well so it wouldn't withstand the high winds or flooding. The base is insisting it can protect the personnel. I hope it's right.

Part of the problem with Florence is that there is a front to the north which has been sitting there for days now which will cause the system to stall. The weatherman actually admitted he didn't know which way it would go after it makes landfall. I've heard anywhere from 5-8 inches of rain for us just Friday.

Yes. That seems to be true of every weather service I have checked...and I cannot remember another hurricane about which so little certainty existed in the several days before it came onshore. This means that many people today know for sure that they might evacuate and find that it was all for nothing.

I'd much rather evacuate to be safe, especially if I had small children in the home.

That would be the wise course of action. However, evacuations are expensive, disruptive, leave your property vulnerable to criminals, and more. My point was that more people than usual will most likely choose not to evacuate because no one knows where the hurricane will track after it makes landfall. Saying that wasn't a recommendation on my part.

It can get expensive if you wait until the last second.
The shelves will sell the cheaper necessities first, cheap batteries, water, foods etc... and there is price gouging, keep your gas at least half full during the season because they will jack up the price of gas. Leaving your home vulnerable is the biggest reason people will not leave even if its a mandatory evacuation.

I hate to say it but those that stay especially on the coast are fools, this storm is a killer and for those who think they can ride it out my question is how long can they tread water considering the storm surge is predicted at 12 feet and they are calling for 20-40 inches of rain in the target area

No more expensive than a family camping trip, but when the stores are low on supply you are looking at the most expensive flashlights.

Sure tho, more expensive :)

Again Galveston took their storm lightly and they knew their history and still ignored the warnings, many many casualties.

The one in Galveston was a while back, I think I went to Austin that time so I was really far away from it, Galveston is about a 2 hours drive from where I live. :)
