      Catholic priests continue sexual abuse

Why are these atrocities continuing to happen to poor innocent children? Where is the accountability? It has been decades since a crackdown was done on Catholic priests and now we have news releases showing that it continues to happen and why aren't these monsters going to prison or being castrated for their crimes?

Are they new? In my state they just released a report that went back over 70 years. I agree this is heinous and should be addressed and corrected but going back 70 years for punishment does noone any good but it will point out the weaknesses in the system and hopefully get them corrected. I agree with punishment but when you are detailing a report where many are already dead then you have to ask to what end

The ones who are not dead--and they are many--cannot be excused that easily. It is also important for people to know that this is a longterm, ongoing, scandal that is characteristic of the whole of the Roman church from the Pope on down.

The impression that people often get that something is so bad that it must be just about a few rotten apples is far from true in this case. And for that to be realized, none of the story should be kept from public knowledge.

Yeah as really hiding this at the expense of families and victims. 1,000 Of the latter. Really priests that abuse their power really are not true men of God. It is all about the victims who's lives are so much ruined.

This I agree with, the cover up is a big part of what needs corrected

I'd like to see the priests all named and called to repentance publicly for their sins against their victims. Maybe if things weren't so hushed that there would be more fear of being found out...so it might happen less.

Holy scripture says that the wicked continue in their wickedness so it is not surprising that wicked people can find their way into positions where they can perform their wickedness and try to avoid being discovered. It is bad that Catholic bishops and others in positions of responsibility have not yet found effective (and biblical) ways of stopping wicked people from getting into the priesthood and other positions with access and authority over children. I hope that they find a way soon, it is very bad to see these things continuing.
Pope Gregory I was well known for his alms to the poor, and he gave quite generously of the riches donated to the Church by the wealthy people of Rome. Everything from money to land was given to the poor in some fashion. He made clear to his subordinates that their duty was to relieve the distress faced by the poor.

He ordered his clergy to go out into the streets to find and care for the poor in person.

Nice try at apologizing for those in authority in the church who groomed, permitted, facilitated, excused, and even promoted the criminals in their own organization!

There could hardly be a more transparent example of the corruption that is the Roman Church than your own attempt to add to the cover-up.

      .

Obviously, this is a HORRIBLE, DETESTABLE thing.... These priests doing disgusting things to innocent little Catholic boys and girls.... often over and over.... intentionally abusing their office and trust.

It has torn apart the RC Denomination where I live, costing tens of millions in fines to the diocese here....and costing LOTS of members....

Yes, it is horrific that we are talking HUNDREDS of these priests.... estimated at least 300 just in the State of Pennslyvania....

But the truly disgusting aspect.... the point that has caused the attention.... is the COVER UP, the winking at, by the RC denomination and its dioceses. That went on for decades.... in diocese after diocese, country after country.... often transferring these monsters to new parishes or dioceses where they could have fresh meat. THAT has been the chief issue, THAT has been the topic of the many law suits, THAT has been what has resulted in the huge fines. We all know there are monsters among us (as deeply disturbing as this is), but this denomination winking at it, covering it up, protecting itself rather than innocent little Catholic boys and girls... THAT is what has been the issue.

And of course, this discredits the Church and the Christ.... it has not only turned people away from the RC denomination, but from ALL churches and ALL clergy.... indeed from Jesus Christ and Christianity. As Mother Teresa's actions drew people to Jesus, the RC denomination's actions has turned people away from Christ and the church. And while the RC denomination ALWAYS cares deeply about anything that hurts it itself, it has been slow to seem to care about how it's cover up has hurt Christ, the church, the clergy, and above all, innocent little boys and girls...

      ABSURD!!!

The RC Denomination has ALWAYS had effective ways of dealing with MONSTERS in its clergy, MONSTERS doing horrific things to innocent little Catholic boys and girls.... It could REPORT them to the civil authorities since they where CRIMINALS, they could defrock them and much more! IT DID NOT. The RC denomination (and its dioceses and bishops and archbishops) winked at it..... covered it up..... even encouraged it to spread by moving these monsters around where they could have fresh meat... and this went on for DECADES... often with these MONSTERS doing this over and over and over..... WHY? Because the RC denomination felt it might harm the denomination if this got known (such is the dispictable state of institutionalism in the RC denomination), it cared about the well being of it itself above all and cared not about innocent little Catholic boys and girls (or even the MONSTERS in its midst). THAT is why this has been much a crisis.... THAT is why there have been all these successful law suits, THAT is why this has harmed Christ and the church and clergy and the faith so very much.

To argue that the RC denomination didn't know what else it could do besides winking at all this.... covering up all this.... empowering all this..... transferring these monsters around for fresh meat..... that's beyond absurd. It had OBVIOUS ways, it just cared about it itself, not morality or integrity or innocent little Catholic boys and girls, not about how the cover up could hurt Christ and the Gospel.
