Just got back from WalMart where I ran into one of my best friends from art school. He looks exactly the same! :)

Hope you feel better soon!

Monday was pretty much a write-off.

Yesterday I caught up on a load of stuff I meant to do on Monday. Mostly admin type stuff - paying bills, that sort of thing. Then I spent some time fiddling with a piece of code I'm working on.

Today I figured I needed to get back to breaking my house. Much as it pains me, I'm going to have to pull down a couple of ceilings. I got most of the wooden beams pulled down and the compressed cardboard ceiling tiles stacked ready to be burned. Today I put dust sheets over doorways and started pulling down the ceiling. Pulling down a lath-and-plaster wall makes a mess but when it's the ceiling it takes mess to another level. So far I've mostly filled four bags of rubble and my pile of laths is growing again. Hopefully the weather will hold tomorrow so I can take some of this out back and burn it all.

Now I've got a big hole in my ceiling that's only going to get worse before it gets better. But it does mean that (hopefully very soon) I'll be able to start putting drywall panels up and putting things back the way I want them. Even if I can only get drywall on the exterior wall it will mean I can put the radiator back in place, which will be a big step forward. Moving that thing around is a challenge - it's a great lump of cast iron that probably weighs more than I do.

Walked on a new trail this morning and it was better than I expected. Can't wait for it to cool off so I can see how long it is.

There is a greenway (paved asphalt) path that is in a nearby town that actually has five parts that totals about 30 miles in all. I've walked about 5 miles of it

Had thought to take a load of my scrap wood out back to burn it but decided to get on with some work indoors instead. So I pulled down another load of my ceiling. Before long I'm going to have to take down some of my dustsheet curtains because I need to get the debris out of the room. I've got a honking great pile of laths again, and 10 more bags of rubble. I think I've got four bags of debris already waiting to go out, so I'll be ready for another trip to the landfill by the time this ceiling is done.

I stopped work because it was getting hard to do anything without dripping sweat all over everything. The headband on my face mask was literally dripping sweat, it was condensing inside my respirator and dripping off my face. It wasn't ideal but I ended up brushing as much mess on the floor as I could, then took my respirator off to run the shop vac. The shop vac uses HEPA filter bags so I don't need to worry about it blowing dust into the air but normally I'd prefer to keep the respirator on until all the work was done.

Then, as soon as I got out of the shower, I realised I could have done some work in the attic that didn't need a face mask or a respirator and where sweating profusely wouldn't cause any problems at all. Oh well. It can wait.

Listening to Tigers baseball. I treated myself to Sirius/XM radio for my birthday, so it's neat that I get to listen to the games again. I'm not a Seattle or Toronto fan, so it's good to have what I want. 2-0 Tigers. Let's see if they keep it up.

Congratulations on the new job, DHoffmann!

I went to the eye doctor this afternoon and my eyes are still dilated :( I won't be on much until morning. My eyes stay dilated for about 12 hours.

Needed a break from pulling down ceilings so spent some time in the attic pulling up the floor instead. I'm trying to preserve as much of the wood as possible because it's 100 years old and I think I can use it for all sorts of other things, if I can lift it without trashing it. Sadly when it was put down it was nailed down with large nails, mostly in places I can't even see, so lifting the floor often means ripping through the nails. Hopefully at the very least I can salvage some to make picture frames or something.

If the weather holds tomorrow I've got an old wooden chest that I cut up and a nice pile of laths to take out back and burn. I've got a huge pile of cardboard ceiling tiles but they don't take up a whole lot of space, so they can burn or not burn depending on weather. If push comes to shove I'll take them to the landfill. I'd rather not pay to get rid of them when I can burn them, but burning them is very slow and if I've got enough to take to the landfill I'd rather pay an extra couple of bucks than spend all morning feeding them into a fire in a barrel.
