Absolutely, originally it was supposed to represent the people, not turn it into a lifetime job.

Do the people not vote though? If the people want someone out they are free to vote them out and not LET it be a lifetime job.

You would think but the system is broken and true representation of peoples interests falls by the wayside

Would there not be the risk that with term limits people would not try once they got elected for the last time?

You mean that special interests would quit currying favor? That would be wonderful and as for a politician quitting, I dont think so but it might make him vote his consicous instead of his poll numbers

In other words, them caring less about getting stuff done because they cannot get reelected any now.

Or maybe doing things because it is the right thing to do rather than worry about getting reelected

that would help. Too bad some people are not like that.

I believe in term limits of 12-16 years(leaning more towards 16) for the US House and Senate.

Well, in the case of the senate that would require either have 12 or 18 since they have terms that are six years long.

I think so. It's hard to see how a politician can claim to serve the people when the only life they have ever known involves sitting in an ivory tower making rules they don't have to worry about themselves.

It's easy to say "you can live on $50/week" if you don't have to actually live on $50/week. It's easy to say "businesses can afford to pay staff a bit more" if you've never had to make a payroll, and never had to take Jim into the office two weeks before Christmas and tell him that he won't have a job come January because you can't afford to pay everyone.

I would increase the number of people who are government pensioned for life increase. One year in these government jobs and they receive a pension for life.
