I drink my coffee STRONG and BLACK. About 8 cups in the morning, about the same during the course of the day. At home, it's Costco's Kirkland House Blend, at work it's Starbucks' Pike Place. No "foo-foo" coffee drinks, please.... although I will consider iced coffee, perhaps.

I was having a lot of issues with caffeine earlier in the year so I've been mostly drinking decaf. The taste just isn't quite the same but I think I'm becoming accustomed to it after all these months. I do splurge every now and again and treat myself to some regular coffee or a latte.

My wife and I discovered cold brew this summer. We buy whole beans and grind it as needed. At present we usually go through about a pound of coffee beans in a week. It was cheaper when we bought cheap preground coffee, but we enjoy drinking decent coffee.

Life's too short for bad coffee.

Grinding your own beans definitely improves the flavor! I don't do cold brew but I'm not saying it's not bad. Sometimes if I can't finish my mug of coffee I'll throw it in the fridge for later ;)

I really want to get back into roasting coffee at home but at the moment my house is in too much chaos to even think about it.

But I gather there may be some health concerns because of some of the fats from within the coffee bean that are destroyed in a hot brew but preserved in a cold brew.

Apparently 'Lipids' and 'Fats' are a bit different. With coffee beans, it's the lipid content that's considered. I had no idea either, so it got my 'research' brain moving this morning. I don't think it's a health issue in the way we think of fat in food. It appears to be something else. I found this to start, but I'm going to keep looking

Neither did I until one of my news feeds suggested an article about cold brew. I'll probably still drink it during the warmer weather, but maybe a little less of it. Or maybe figure out which beans contain less of the harmful fats.

Arabica as opposed to robusta? Arabica is where it's at, robusta is only good for adding a bit of crema and caffeine kick to espresso blends.
