I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. Does anyone here have it? If so, what have you found helps you out the most concerning what you eat (for a productive life...not just weight loss)? I've read that most people avoid gluten (I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet), dairy, soy, iodine and cruciferous raw veggies. Vegans have said they returned to meat to help them function through the days.

Always wise to get 2nd and 3rd opinions before coming to a definite conclusion on something like this.

Hashimoto's Disease or problems with thyroid function is not tied to Veganism or plant based diets in any literature or statistics I'm aware of. I actually sort of wonder why you'd include the last sentence on Vegans seeing as you have been clear elsewhere you aren't one and if the diagnosis is correct then meat/dairy/eggs is obviously not the answer as they are already part of your habits.

I included the part about vegans returning to meat because of documentation I've read by medical field results. Hashimoto's disease is genetic and my maternal side of the family has it so it's no surprise that I have it as well but this time the test came back positive unlike when I was in my 30s and it was negative even though I had the symptoms.

Meat helps those who have Hashimoto's and some of the plans for eating are the paleo and South Beach diets that help people function day to day. Eliminating soy, dairy and iodine are also important but not always necessary depending on the person. I know I'm sensitive to iodine and have discovered it this past year so I'm eliminating that. Soy products are mainly found in processed foods but I make most of my own so that won't be too much of a problem. I do enjoy cheese on occasion so I don't know if I'll totally eliminate dairy and have already switched to almond milk even though the cost is about 4 times higher than regular milk. Egg yolks are high in iodine and the last few times I've had eggs for breakfast they bothered my stomach and I don't like egg whites very much to eat those alone.

I am reaching out to you because I have recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto and am still trying to get the dosage right with the medication. For YEARS, since I’d say 92’ I’ve had issues with eating eggs off and on. Getting the cramping painful, feel like I have to poop after eating them. It was really bad in the dearly years. And for certain amount of length of time (sometimes years) since, I’ve been able to eat them without the side effects. I’m wondering if I’ve started having an issue with iodine way back when. Growing up I never had an issue eating eggs. I am attempting to eliminate gluten and dairy from my diet but it’s hard as I do love milk and cheeeeeeese and ice creeeam lol I’m trying out unsweetened coconut milk for my coffee and it’s ok but not like milk or creeeeeam lol I’ve been doing a lot of research on what to eat and what not to, I’ve seen some sites recommend the Keto diet. It’s definitely hard to make all these changes at once but I AM trying. I’ve also found on YouTube, after researching, a Dr recommending certain vitamins and probiotics. You should check that out too. Hope this helps and to let you know you’re not alone! [emoji846]

Thanks for posting! I no longer have my thyroid and my Endocrinologist said that Hashimoto's shouldn't affect me anymore...but I have a feeling he's wrong. Eating things with soy still causes inflammation but not as much as when I had a thyroid. There must be just enough thyroid tissue remaining in my body to have me feel the effects.

I think you should definitely try to curb your dairy input. It has helped me with a lot of issues. My allergies, although still there, aren't as bad now that I limit my dairy intake. I have not completely eliminated dairy and don't plan on doing so either but it helps to focus more on eating meat for protein and dark leafy greens for calcium.

I like to use International Delights coffee creamer because it's not dairy and doesn't have soy in it or sea salt. So many products now contain sea salt!!

You'll have to keep experimenting and find out what your body likes and doesn't. Glad to have you here!

Have you thought to try 'scrambled egg-whites' on toast ?

and yes, the saying:
"A LITTLE BIT, OF WHAT YOU FANCY, DOES YOU GOOD" is a very valid statement
Doctor's also use poisons, as CURES

another saying: "VARIETY, IS THE SPICE OF LIFE"
where…. 'BINGEING' on a favourite, can be most harmful

One of Mary's granddaughters is a 'professed' VEGAN
When I was first introduced to her, I noted immediately, just how thin the flesh on her bones were
[weight-loss] she hardly had any to begin with ~according to family photos Mary left-behind
I had-to ask Mary, if she was ill, Mary immediately 'silenced-me'
The family had already taken her to task out of fear of losing-her, and undergone the Vegan retaliation for their lack of faith and love toward-her

While there may be a sound reason for avoiding certain foods, like, the Gluten Intolerance her Mother has
Trying to obtain proteins from vegetables without consuming Soya products does lead-to deficiency of for-example; Calcium Absorption and utilisation

As has been previously 'mooted' Specialist advice should be sought and adopted
She is my height and just over 5 stones [14 lbs x 5 = 70lbs] no heavier than Mary eventually was
She must be about 23 years now and will (I believe) have a very short and difficult life
Awkwardly, for advisors, the young woman will CUT YOU OFF, IMMEDIATELY
should you 'attempt' to-suggest, that she has been making some 'Wrong Decisions' concerning her 'diet'

Looking-forward toward her, starting to make her own family
I forsee, the foetus requiring ALL of any nutrient in her body, with subsequently gross outcome
I
that her path has time for miraculous changes

If I eat my egg whites, I do have them with toast and sometimes I turn them into an omelette with green pepper and carrots added in. I've grown used to eating them that way.

I hope your wife's granddaughter does not have an eating disorder. Some professed vegans are hiding their anorexia because vegetables are low calorie. I've known quite a few people who have done that and it takes good therapy to heal.

You are not wrong_ as far as anyone can determine_ her condition is a psychological one

While she may well have inherited her Mother's gluten intolerance..(not a certainty) she chooses to avoid meat/ eggs/ fish/ milk etc
[animal and dairy products]

Some people, are just not right in the head.
Tough words (I know) but we are, the 'SUM' of everyone we have ever met and learned about (?)
Sometimes, one wrong decision, will rob someone of a long life

Kismet ?

Or, are schools SO-USELESS that 'their product', remains hopelessly inept and ignorant
? very concerning
