Do you have a song that you're requesting be played at your funeral? When I was in choir our organist would always tell us when a certain song was played that THAT is a song she wanted at her funeral. Others started planning for songs too so I wonder if any of you have a special song?

My grandmother had her whole service planned out. She was an organ and piano player and had played for numerous funerals in her lifetime. She requested no piano music during her funeral. My dad got around that by playing a tape of her playing the piano.

For a long time I'd thought "Long As I Can See The Light" by CCR would be fitting.

Put a candle in the window
'Cause I feel I've gotta move
Though I'm goin', goin'
I'll be comin' home soon
Long as I can see the light

Hopefully they will start with "My Jesus I Love Thee" and "Morning Has Broken," and end with "Go Rest High on That Mountain." Between the two, maybe they will play some Boot Scootin Boogie and Tennessee Flat Top Box and lighten the mood up a bit. I'm not charismatic, but that's one instance when I'd love to see dancing in the aisles. :)

A few years back a friend's husband died. I didn't know him but went to his funeral to support her. It turned out I needn't have gone - it was standing room only in there. At the end of the service he had requested "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" from Monty Python's movie "The Life Of Brian" be played. It caused a lot of laughter as we filed out.

Maybe that will be my choice for my funeral, just to wind things down with a laugh.

I wish I was part of a choir again. I would love to have a choir sing at my funeral!

No, I do not want a single song to represent me at my funeral. If anything it would be an instrumental only and one of my own. I have not yet nominated one.
