Actually, I know him personally. He attends the Mennonite church I used to attend. His name is "Ed" (a pseudonym, obviously) and he's at the local mall every year ;)




Don't tell me San.... er... Ed's not real!

The mennonite church? Yay!!! A peaceful anabaptist named after the Frysian Menno Siemens. Who would have thought?

Now I understand why they're called Mennonites. Lutherans aren't called "Martinites," you know, or Calvinists "Johnists."

Calling them Simonites would be unpleasantly suggestive of Simony so Menno Simons' first name became the name for them as Mennonites. Martin Luther's followers became known as Lutherans and John Calvin's followers became known as Calvinists so Mennonites is consistent - with the understanding that Simon was not really available without seriously prejudicing people against them.
