      Reformation Sunday

Today there are some churches who will celebrate the Reformation (the real date is Oct. 31). It's the 500th Anniversary!

Will your church be doing anything special or make a passing comment?

Service, an Oktoberfest lunch and I believe we're all going up to Herndon for a Reformation Service.

Well, I did suggest a posthumous excommunication ...

But my priest hasn't agreed yet
Saint Jude, author of the new testament letter.

He is the patron of impossible causes because the scriptural Letter of St. Jude, which he authored, urges Christians to persevere in difficult times.

I've never been in a service where this date was acknowledged.

It's more likely in a Lutheran Church than other Protestant churches. But I was wondering if the 500th would make a difference.

I haven't seen any special notices in the local newspaper to that effect, however.

We've had special worship services this month.... the pastor has been going through the Solas. Started with Sola Scriptura and then the 3 solas proclaiming justification. Today it will be Sola Fide. The special services have all been on the theme of course, but always including a hymn written by Luther. The pastor's Sunday Bible Class has been on the "sola" for that Sunday, too.

There is a big special area service at 4:00 today, I think 7 or 8 Lutheran churches are doing this together at the largest Lutheran facility. Too bad other Protestants aren't celebrating, but that's how it goes.

A blessed Reformation Sunday to all!

We are justified by works - just not our own.

I attend a non denominational church now and I haven't heard a word. I doubt many of the members even know what the Protestant reformation was.

That DID cross my mind. From what the members say, a lot of the newer Protestant denominations or non-denoms feel that they are NOT Protestants--I think because they want to believe that their churches have sprung from nowhere to uphold the Bible or else are the heirs of Christians who supposedly held out against Rome throughout history.

Lutherans, Presbyterians, and etc. are thought to have arisen from a purely internal spat within the Catholic church and, depending on whom you talk with, there's the idea that those churches of the Reformation are still enslaved to the RCC because they didn't get rid of every last thing that Catholics do or believe.

      .
I think it actually goes deeper than that. I think that many people are biblically ignorant and have no knowledge of church history at all.
