For winter it is this:
  • 4 or 5 peeled carrots chopped up in large chunks
  • 5 or 6 peeled potatoes chopped up in chunks
  • two 440 ml tins of diced tomatoes
  • 2 large onions diced
  • 3 tablespoon fulls of tomato paste
  • lots of pepper (white is best)
  • 500 g of diced lamb or beef
  • some salt
  • a little chilli
  • enough water to make it up to 3 or 4 litres

Cook slowly an hour on simmer after bringing it to the boil.

You can add cauliflower if you like, or even chopped cabbage, I often add a turnip but avoid celery because celery can become overpowering when slow cooked.

It makes a very tasty warming hearty winter soup.
