DHoffman in Post #20 [emphasis added]:

Socrates was poisoned with hemlock because he was an atheist, Athenian law prescribed it, but think about it, back then being an atheist was the label you got if you didnt surrender to the 'many' gods. This was pre-Christian era and he wasn't Jewish, you couldnt be adopted into Judaism and you didnt have Jesus to convert/adopt gentiles and thus these days we would call him atheist

Actually, you could be adopted into Judaism.

People who converted were grafted into the spiritual relationship that the descendants of Jacob had with God. (I can provide Scripture references if requested.) They were welcome to participate in the Passover remembrance.

John’s baptism was actually an invitation to individual Jews to admit that their (what we would call) spiritual lives were deficient, and to submit to, as a sign of repentance, the rite that pagan converts had to submit to as part of their conversion process.

The Pagan converts, while being included in the spiritual aspects of the covenant with Yahweh, had no inclusion in the land aspect of covenant. That was reserved for the descendants of Jacob only. Any idea of pagan converts joining one of the tribes of Israel, has no merit.

(And I’m waiting for someone to fire a challenge at me, about someone who might appear to be an exception to the rule.

Anyone?)

Atheism is a dogmatic insistence that no god exists

From day to day I literally never think about being an atheist though unless someone asks me about my belief in god, to which I have to say I don't really have one. Its not part of my identity even. There are tons of likely non-existent things that I don't believe in or ever think about. I don't believe there is hand lotion on the planet Venus. No one ever asks me about that though and up until this point I've never had to weigh in on the big hand lotion on Venus question. By your definition I guess we would all be part of the dogmatic no lotion on Venus religion.

I agree with assessment of the claim that atheism is dogmatic insistence that no god(s) exist. That definition is absurd.
