My nephew is stationed in Iraq and his birthday card that I sent over a month ago got returned yesterday. :nono:

Since it was just a card I put a normal postage stamp on it as I've done in the past. The mailing address I went over TWICE on a call with him to make sure I had it correct and yes, it was because I mailed out a care package to him 2 weeks ago and it got there fine.

So what happened? Anyone know why some things that go overseas get returned?

No clue, it seems that even local mail can get lost in the system, it is no wonder that the post office is having such problems

At least I got to tell him on Facebook today that it got returned. I'm glad my package made it there though! He said he was craving peanut butter and crackers! I bet the crackers are just crumbs now! LOL

You would think the USPS would make extra effort to make certain our troops get their mail, and perhaps they do and this was just a fluke. In either case, I know it was frustrating to have your mail returned, knowing how much our troops look forward to mail call overseas.

Well, especially since I see it's marked that it made it to the military post office 3 weeks after I mailed it.

IT's been a long time since I've sent anything to a military person, but then, it had to be to a FPO address. Something like, PVT Mike Collins, blah, blah, blah... FPO San Francisco, Ca.
The address is actually to a miliatry mail sorting office still in the USA (thus, just regular stamp) The military then takes it from the Post Office and delivers it (which costs you nothing). If the person is in Iraq, the address would not state that.

At least that's how it was a few years ago when I had a friend in the gulf (serving in the Marines)

Yep, It's addressed SPC blah blah and all that other vital info in the correct order. I think someone just made a big boo boo. It went all the way overseas and then came back. So ridiculous.
