Why preach the Good News if the cross already forgives sins?

That question (not in those exact words) was asked in another thread.

Jesus died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins

Without Shedding of Blood there is No Forgiveness

With all our sins forgiven then what is the point of preaching the Gospel (the good news) that we have salvation without having to do anything?
That's the purpose of this thread.

The answer is because objectively God has justified us through Christ and yet we need to subjectively trust in it by grace through faith in order for us to benefit from it. Subjective justification is "by grace through faith" and this faith comes by hearing His Word (namely the Gospel concerning Jesus' death for our sins). The Gospel is what changes us from the dead Old Adam into the alive New Adam who has life.

Life is only because of Jesus. We are adopted sons because of Jesus' as well as being heirs to His last will and testament. That wasn't by our decision, choice or acceptance. It was set in place by God.

The questions of why some and why not others is not answered within scripture so guessing is really no point. What matters is that we don't do anything for eternal life and we should be grateful that it's not dependent on us because none of us could succeed. We can't die on the cross to have our sins forgiven. We can't obey God enough. We can't love God or our neighbors as ourselves perfectly as He requires.

The only assurance of salvation for eternal life is Jesus alone. His death and resurrection is what we look to and not ourselves. That's the Good News that should be preached to all mankind so they can receive faith and believe in that Gospel.
