Tonight, I have been thinking of younger days and having good memories.I thought about how looking back sometimes causes us to romanticize some of the crazy things we did back when we were caught up in the foolishness of youth. I laugh at the memories, and sometimes I cry. And, I wonder why it is that we have to fall and hurt ourselves before we see the light of God's love. Any thoughts?

I do not think we need to fall and hurt ourselves before we can see God's goodness and love. The holy angels behold the face of God and never fell. They work and strive against the foes of goodness - those foes are also the foes of God because opposing what is good is opposing God. But for many human beings a fall and an injury is an occasion for reflection on our foolishness and sometimes the reflection leads to communion with God and that is where we see God's love and goodness. So you are right that a fall and hurt leads to God (many times) but wrong to think it is necessary. It is just common.

I think the black background of bad experience helps our mortal minds to see the brilliant light of God. Somehow God is able to shine in that because it brings us to inquire of Him. I don't think humans can know anything without contrasting it to something else. Jesus's parables were about contrasting the natural to see the spiritual. It could be that's why we can see God in nature or in circumstances

The worse off we've been the more we appreciate what God does for us. If we have an easy perfect life we tend to take Him for granted.

Because when young we feel as if nothing will hurt us, that we know better, and that it is foolish to worry. Just some of them

Although I wish I had a closer relationship with Christ growing up I believe He's utilized my hard knocks as learning experiences.

Apostle John wrote
John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.KJV

John 1:5 And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].AMPC

Have you ever been to the movies on a bright sunshiny day. The darkness of the theater optimizes the viewing pleasure we get from what is on the movie screen. But, when you come out into the light of day, the brightness of the sun causes you to squint because the light hurts your eyes. I think(just imho) that sometimes it is like this in our lives. The deception in the darkness(the lie) is "this is good." Even in memory of some of the darkness produce certain pleasurable feelings within us, but, the light tells us the truth,("that was bad".).

Yes a pity. I have no friends anymore after the divorce. They were never welcome then, he thought it was annoying, now they live somewhere with a family and have their own lives. Ah one visited, the only one who wasn't offended that I could only go to her once a year, but then she takes her husband with her, who always has to come along and they go sit slimy on the couch together bleh.

The crazy memories are romantisized because of the feelings associated with them. Every once in awhile, to come to a breakthru then those memories are seen as building blocks but the breaking thru was painful. Plateaus reached are like a shocked trance until all those painful experiences are brought to the Present, all that's truly owned is this moment right now . Then the joyful experience of climbing begins again until the next plateau is reached. The joy stays with us but the pain that we'd rather leave behind needs sifting and assimulating ... such is life.

I agree. Such is life. And we laugh when we look back. It is strange how it looks funny in hindsight. But it was not funny when we were going through it.
