Okay. God commanded that the ark be built. And He commanded the design. But He did not give any commands for the creation of icons.

Also, it was a reminder of what God has done. We don't need that reminder today. We have God's word to remind us of the cross.

Has God forbidden artwork then?

They were representations of what is in heaven and now that is where you would find them. Ever wonder why everything was so exact and had to be a certain way?

But they are not for us today.

What is in heaven is not for us today? I beg to differ, study of these things is important

So this leads you to believe that using icons in worship is okay?

Hammster, when you use the word "using" I'm wondering what you are implying? It seems to me that others here have a different type of idea for that word when in connection with worship.

I didnt say that but it really depends on how you view it. For instance we have a cross behind the pulpit and as long as you dont turn it into an idol I think it can be helpful in focusing on Jesus

"Here's a picture of Jesus that I look at to help me pray/worship."

That's what I mean.

So you wouldn't focus as well on a Sunday without the cross?

Exactly. It helps me focus, keeps my mind from wandering. I don't pray TO a picture/statue. I pray to Jesus who is represented in the icon.

And I don't think it's biblical.

Of course but what is wrong with reminders? I dont have a problem with any of it nor do I have to have a church to worship in either but I still go as it is preferred.

Do you need a reminder of how sinful you are and how great a Savior you have? I'm informed of that every day when I read scripture.

Then Iwould say continue to read and be blessed and let others who enjoy worship with reminders to enjoy it

I guess it depends on which truth and whose. There is no prohibition against symbols especially the ones that God provided. Personally, I think that your attitude would turn a lot of people off.
