I had a look around but couldn't seem to find a related thread.

Baptism seemingly falls in to one of two areas. Some consider paedobaptism as valid -- necessary even -- whereas others consider, myself included, credobaptism to be valid yet unnecessary.

I am curious what people here believe and why they hold those beliefs.

As for my statement, I consider credobaptism as unnecessary from a soteriological perspective, but nonetheless a matter of obedience to God's command so therefore still important.

Looking forward to discussion :)

God bless,

Chris

Didn't Jesus tell the disciples to baptize all nations? That's pretty much all of us eh? Baptism isn't Law but Gospel so it isn't something we do but something God does to us. I know I saw on this christian forum a post about God working in baptism and we receive. I mean what else do you think YOU are doing in baptism hehe. Not much since it is all about Jesus and the cross and God giving to us. Isn't he always giving and giving? What a wonderful God.

Did you ever notice in Acts that as soon as someone was saved they were baptized? Think that paints a pretty clear picture as to its importance

it is far more then an ordinance ..it is not only symbolic and failing to do it once you have learned of it is rebellion and disobedience ..it is also an act of obedience based upon your own faith .. not the faith of some one else (ie parents)
JEsus said "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
first the lord JEsus commands it saying go and DO IT and then he tells them to tech those ones to obey the command .. this has never been changed by the lord JESUS .

it is of crucial importance - some may jump in and argue the thief on the cross ..but the thief on the cross was not about to set out on a born again life of the Spirit .. so unless your death is imminent in the next few hours -- go get baptised in water and come out of egypt via the red sea and into the spiritual domain of the authority of God .

get the whole package offered us and dont be short changed by unbelief which teaches disobedience . we repent to the father(1) ,we are baptised INTO the death and resurrection of the lord JEsus(2) .. and we receive the Holy Ghost (3).. in this we have then and only then begun to abide in the fulness of the god head (1,2&3)and he in us ..

Neither obedience or ordinance. IMO, Baptism is blessing.

I know of nothing that mandates that one attain the age of "X" or that one proclaim faith before they can be baptized, thus - noting that no such prohibition was given by Jesus - I don't support prohibiting the blessing because the recipient has not yet attained the age of "X" or has first proclaimed their faith.

That's my opinion, since you asked (LOL).

And that is the beginning of great great error and deception. You based your stance on "opinion"..in this case your own.

We must never do that. It is a command given by the lord jesus .very simply. To not do it is disobedience.. And to repent and obey is something you have conscience to do.thus a baby cannot do so . if youve been baptized as a baby..then you yourself have not yet believed and obeyed on your own faith. To be obedient ..you must go and do it. We build upon Gods word. Not upon mans opinion.

So when performing the Baptism how is it said? Does the ordained speak Plainly from the Text I Baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost?
Or does the Ordained Speak the names?
In the name Of {?}{?}{?}
What is the name of the Father?

the name of Jesus ..the name given "above every name " the only name by which man can be saved .. the only name by which God accepts approach to be reconciled to himself .

do not forget the three ..are one .
And who told you only an ordained person can baptise another ? that is unscriptural .. ANY one who has become a disciple of the lord Jesus is called to God out and make more disciples baptising them . it is not some special task confined to mans added and unbiblical inserted hierarchy

Of course it's a command, but to end there is IMO to ENTIRELY, wholly, completely miss the point. IMO, baptism is God's blessing.

How do you know I don't believe?

What is it in those who have not yet attained the age of "X" that renders God's impotent, incapable of blessing, unable to give faith?

Where does God's Word state, "Thou canst NOT baptize those under the age of X?" Or..... "God is impotent to bless those under the age of X?" And where does God's Word state what age "X" is, at what age God is no longer rendered impotent via this factor?

do not be so tangled about what it does not say but rather obey what it DOES say , when you were a baby ,did you acknowledge your sin ,repent and then get baptised into the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus ...? NO you did not have that ability ,so if not .. It is simple obedience to go and do so asap .
why would any one who claims to love Him have even a moment's hesitation ? Obedience is the evidence of our love for him .

also then, do not forget ..it does not say "names" but Name . therefore it can only be one name which the godhead being "GOD" finds acceptable in its redemptive and reconciliatory nature making peace where there was enmity .
and again "in him ..Jesus , dwelt the fullness of the Godhead ..thus the name of the God head is .. "Jesus"(in english) .. the name of the Father son and Holy spirit is encapsulated in this one name
