Australia is a very good country in which to live.

The United States of America really isn't so bad.

Being of faith and living peacefully do not necessarily go hand in hand...look at the Middle East. Looking at crime statistics, the more peaceful societies are the secular ones. :)
Yeh, right. North Korea and China come easily to mind when I read that claim. Not!

It's awful except when compared to all the others. ;)

That's why, out of 200 countries, no one here can come up with an answer except for several choices that look promising precisely because they are the ones that are thought to be most like the USA.

I still say Canada. It's free, friendly, comfortable, and you get good medical cover without having to pay a fortune to get it.

Yeah, but you're Canadian born ( maybe with a Canadian heritage, but it's early days yet to be asking about things like heritage), so you would have an attachment to your homeland, wouldn't you? How are a North American nation and a country in Australasia more similar to each other than two North American nations? I've been puzzling over that one since I read it.

Shared UK heritage, shared sense of humour, similar spelling, their accent is a little unfortunate though :p

My bloodline is largely British too and I'm very much a Virginian ( an American), although my spelling and the side of the road I drive on might be a little off.

“Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, when He said poenitentiam agite, willed that the whole life of believers should be repentance.” ~ The first of Martin Luther's 95 Theses http://a-short-saying.blogspot.com/2011/02/life-of-repentance.html

There really is an emphasis on living our lives in repentance, always returning to our baptism, in Evangelical Lutheranism. :) Guilt, provided by the Law, is just and necessary. The Law brings us to repentance, while the Gospel proclaims our forgiveness. Back to the topic of the thread, though, while there really is no place like home, I think New Zealand would be an excellent alternative. It's not too hot and from what I've read, there is a lot of unspoiled land out there.

Poor old Martin was rather guilt ridden even as a Catholic and the condition did not improve when he started his own denomination

Martin would have felt better had he lived in Australia or Canada. The free medical care would have helped with the guilt thing :p
